The history of Castellar de la Frontera is a little different from the norm. In fact, we can consider it in two stages, each of which is charged with historical anecdotes and all centred in the old town of Castellar de la Frontera.
The second part of the story is the most recent and concerns the time when the majority of the inhabitants left their homes in the old town to move to the new town. This was because in 1971 the new town of Castellar was born, and with this town, a new historic stage was opened.
This major change ensured that the inhabitants of the old town improved their standard of living drastically; this due to the fact that the old town could not grow further.
Aparte from these two urban centres, there is another next to the railway station, which is also filled with rich historical tales. This is the town of Almoraima.
