Almost as if hugging infinte fields and wrapped in orange groves, membrillos and granadine tress, Algodonales is a town steeped in history.
Its origin can be traced to the repopulation of this area after the reconquest at the beginning of the XVI century. Land divisions were proclaimed around 1520 by the family of the Duke of Arcos de la Fronters and the Duke of Ponce de Leon who opened the door of opportunity to colonise Los Algodonales. In 1566 the town acquired the rank of town and obrtained a Papal Bull ot construct a church under the auspices of Santa Ana.
However, indications of human habitation in this area has been found dating from the remotest of times, as evidenced by the remains discovered close to Cueva Santa, Chamusquina and Castillejo, where....
