Corcoya is a small village of Badolatosa, and is located around 6 kms from it. Today it boasts around 650 inhabitants.
The name Corcoya probably derived from Coscoja, a name which was given to a local fruit coscojeñas, or carrascos (some kind of acorn), which in ancient times, defined the countryside of the area.
Less than a kilometer from the boundary of the village is the beginning of the Sierra de Corcoya which leads into the Sierra de a Cabrera and here lies the pretty hermitage of la Fuensanta, surrounded by immensely beautiful countryside.
In times long gone, when bandits walked the land, there was a carer for the hermitage who looked after the church and its faithful. Itwas here that one of the most famous of these bandits, one José Mª El Tempranillo came to pay his respects and pray as, according to tradition, he was deeply religious.
Even today, the caves which el Tempranillo used to hide in when he came to visit the hermitage and the Virgin of La Fuensanta, are preserved for posterity.
The caves are located next tothe old house of the guardian, they are not very deep, but are very well preserved and presented. Their spectacular setting maks them unique in the heritage of this part of the Natural Park of Malpasillo.
Because of the remotenes of the place, it was an ideal location to hide out and lie low in moments of danger. However, it was in 1832 when the king, Fernando VII, managed to trap José Mª el Tempranillo, which he did in the vicinity of the hermitage of la Fuensanta.
