Trujillo is located on the highest peak of a granite pluton that is now splashed with oak trees and other species that can survive in a hostile invironment.
Trujuillo is a beautiful medieval city that is almost an obligatory stop for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of both this part of the world and the Spanish expansion into south america in the XVI century.
The discovery of the new world greatly benefitted this city as many of the principal and original conquistadores came from here. The streets of the city are littered with palaces, churches and noble houses, the friut of the spoils that were brought back from the new world. The effect of these solidly built palaces gives some sort of creedence to the popular legend that Trujillo was actually carved by the quarrymen from the country granite on which the city has been built.
Without any doubt though, Trujillo is perhaps the best example in Spain of how a city can be built with the solid stones of the country and founded on a bed of solid grey granite.
What is also without doubt is that any traveller who visits the city will be magically transferred for an instant back to the medieval city that was made famous by the blood of its sons.
