Pontevedra is located in the Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, in the southwestern part ofhte Autonomous Community of Galicia. Its boundaries are shared by La Coruña, Lugo, and Orense, with Portugal and with the atlantic Ocean.
The population, according to the latest count is 943,117 inhabitants, of which over 80,096 live in the capital city of the same name. Vigo is the most populous city of the province and of Galicia. There are 62 municipalities in Pontevedra.
The province is home to the natural parklands of the Atlantic Islands that comprise the Galician islands of Cíes, Ons, Sálvora and Cortegada.
