normal_slide_jumillacastle2.jpg One of Spain´s smallest autonomous regions, Murcia guards its secrets more effectively than its larger neighbours, Valencia and Andalucía.

The fertile plains extending from the north to the south are home to many varieties of fruit and vegetables including lemon, orange, and artichoke.

The capital of Murcia, boasts a wonderful cathedral whose architecture reflects its origins and tastes of the time of its construction between the 14th and 18th centuries.

Along the coast of Murcia the unique Mar Menor is a well-protected, warm lagoon that has been adapted to the good life; water sports, tranquil days and superbly equipped golf courses.

La Manga de Mar Menor, a narrow strip of high rise hotels and modern apartments forms a barrier against the intrusion of the Mediterranean sea and, where the narrow sand bar (manga means “sleeve”) meets the mainland, provides a suitable backdrop for several exclusive resorts and residential areas.

normal_slide_windmill2.jpg Cartegena, to the south, was ancient Carthage´s main Spanish city and well preserved ruins of the Byzantine wall that surrounded a bustling centre stand as mute testament to one of the world´s earliest commercial civilisations.

In Lorca, on the border between Murcia and Andalucia the town centre proudly displays a mgnificent Plaza de España, to be enjoyed at leisure whilst drinking a cold beer or an aromatic coffee.

Perhaps one of Murcia´s most closely guarded secrets is its wine industry. In the northeast of Murcia there are extensive vineyards, whose focus is the town of Jumilla. This region, in a good year, can provide some of the best wine in Spain.

A must for both connoisseurs and for those who enjoy rich wines with the flavour of the soil and sun loving captured in a bottle.
