The first historical information about the fortress of Luque comes from the muslim period. During the years 908-909 the arabic historian Ibn Hayyan describing a rebellion, makes reference to the castle.
There is also mention of the quarries of the town being used as a source for the great mosque Aljama of Abderramán III in Córdoba.
During the muslim domination, the town fell into the influence of the neighbouring town of Cabra. This lasted until the XI century after the christian invasion when the town was linked to Córdoba.
The town was conquered by Fernando III el Santo between february 1240 and march of 1241 during which time the monarch himself was to be located in these lands. The muslim population remained in the village until 1294 after which time the mass expulsions began. After a few brief years in the hands of doña Juana de Ponthieu (wife of Fernando III) and of the prince don Juan the town passed to the hands of the Venegas family. It remained part of the family possessions until the XIX century.
