Close by the Hotel Lloret is an old village of fishermen. Its origin dates from the 2nd and 3rd century BC. Lloret keeps many monumental remains of great importance: the Iberian village of Montbarbat and the Roman Tombs, the 16th century Chuch (with Catalan paintings of that period), Nuestra Señora de las Alegrías’ Churh, the Benedictine chapel of St. Pere del Bosc, Sta. Cristina and St. Quirze Churches, and St. Joan’s Castle (10-11th century AD), situated on the hill which separates Fanal’s beach from Lloret, and used to be a defence against the Pirates.
Other attractive monuments are Plaja’s Castle, now an emblematic part of the landscape and also Santa Clodilde del Mar Gardens (26.000 m2), built in an amphitheatre viewing the sea (19th century). Lloret de Mar is an appreciated turistic destination thanks to its nice beaches, clear waters and idyllic creeks. The EEC gave to these beaches the blue flag, the award for their quality. Lloret offers to the visitor a great sort of entertainments: aquatic parks, golf clubs, casino, harbour, restaurants and shops. At night, Lloret is one of the most lively towns in the Costa Brava, with lots of discos and bars.
