The province of Granada is located to the east of Andalusia and is characterized by a striking change in geographical nature in a very short distance. Within scarcely 50 kilometers the sweep of the land takes us from the highest peak in the Iberian Peninsula, Mulhacén (3,478 metres), to the extensive fertile coastal plains of Genil.
This change in character of the country from the high, imposing mountains of the Sierra Nevada casting their shadows over the beaches of the Mediterranean is perhaps unique in that nowhere else in the world is such majesty of artic splendor bought into so close juxtaposition with lush semi-tropical beaches as here on the southernmost corner of the European continent.
The city of Granada, which gives its name to the province, has been built where the Darro and Genil rivers meet and offers the visitor a unique glimpse into the ancient world of the Moorish invaders, whose near 800 year-old empire was finally bought to a close here in the year 1492.
The artistic treasures that have been left behind from those almost mystical times have been preserved for us in pristine condition and can be seen in just about every corner of the province.
 The Province of Granada is a reflection of the fortune that is focused in its Provincial capital. The Sierra Nevada rises up majestically from the fertile plain on which the abundant and varied crops are watered using extensions of the original Roman and Moorish systems of irrigation, thus assuring the cultivation of nearly every fruit and vegetable imaginable.
As can be imagined, on offer in most of the restaurants and bars is one of the richest examples of the Mediterranean diet in Spain.
The Sierra Nevada themselves provide the cool waters that gave Granada is predominant social and geographically blessed position.
In the summer the mountains dominates the landscape and offers retreats, lonely farmhouses and long walks in crystal clear air far from the contamination that characterize cities further to the north.
In the winter, the highlands of the Sierra Nevada provide some of the most spectacular skiing in Europe with well catered for ski slopes and hotels offering the visitor a brief glimpse of where the sky touches the earth.
