Fuentes de Andalucía is one of Seville provinces great monumental township. Although it is a small town it is filled with all the charm of a typical Andalusian village, being both rural and urban at the same time and in posession of a huge artistic and historical inheritance. Many of the most impressive buildings date from the same period and are the responsibility of the architects of the family Ruiz Florindo.
But that's not the only inheritance that this town has been given. There is also a significant muslim and christian heritage that dates from the time of the wars of 'reconquest'. From the almohade period (XII century) there are two great fortresses; the castles of Hierro and that of Monclova (XIV century), which is the property of the Casa del Infantado, a family of prestigious noble rank, preceded only by that of the house of Alba.
Ancient civilizations have also left their mark here. Iberio-roman remains here have been declared to be of Cultural Interes and paleolithic remains of the Cerro de San Pedro, speak volumes of prehistoric settlements that flourished many centuries previous to this time.
Apart from the cultural heritage that this town boasts, the area around the town is famous for the quality of its horses and is rightly proud of its record in animal husbandry. There are many important stable that raise some of the finest of Iberian bloodstock and that have bee awarded many prestigious national and international prizes for their work, especially with the growth and conservation of the famous pure Spanish race of horses.
One of the other famous products to issue from Fuentes de Andalucia is the famous aniseed liquer of Rigo, who make their products using ancient methods thus preserving the unique quality of the drink. Here, liquers are made using the traditional ways in distillation towers that have served generations of artisans.
