Coronil de la Frontera is a town situarted in the southern part of the province of Seville at around 54 kilometres from the capital city. Its extensive adiminstrative boundary crosses several rivers including the río Guadalete and the Arroyo Salado.
The centre is located on the nothern part of the town and is girdled by the A-376.
The people who live here are well known throughout the region for their welcoming and open attitude. Pedro A. Cantero, in his book about architecture, says, in a eulogy to the town, "Sometimes it happens that when you enter a new town you have the feeling that open spaces and attitudes are being freely offered, almost as if a table has been prepared for a welcome guest; not because it is excessively laden or adorned with offerings but simply because you feel instinctly that you are welcome. This is the case in this town, I knew I was welcome and I felt at home even before I began to speak to the people. I got this feeling simply by enjoying the tranquility of the space and the simple attitude of those who lived there".
The most ancient archeaological remains discovered to date from the Paleolithic. The most startly discovery was a dolmen found near the zone of the town known as "El Calvario".
There also exist remains of inhabitation from around the Bronze Age and roman remains are very frequent although the general distribution indicates that the majority of the remains are founded in the XV century, immediately after the establishment of the town as an administrative centre in 1381.
The many hundreds of years of history indicate a lengthy human relationship with Coronil, the reason being that the town is located in an excellent strategic position. For this reason just about every civilization that has walked on Spanish terrane has also been here, a fact that provides a rich heritage for a unique town.
