The name of Baza comes from the name imposed by the romans of, “Basti”. It appears that this was a continuation of the name that was originally given during the Iberian period as it was considered to be the capital of the region called "Bastetania" or "Bastitania".
The arabs transformed the name to “medina Bastha” or “Batza” as was written by one Abd -el- Aziz when he included Basti amongst the conquered cities.
