Bailén is a municipality in the North of the province of Jaén. It is situated in a natural crossing between the centre and north of Spain towards the WEst and East of Andalusia, next to the motorway, the A-4 (the old National IV).
The muncipality has an important ceramic industry and the production and wine and hotels is also right up there. The production of olive oil and other agricultural crops provide the staple production for the area.
Important buildings to visit include Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, which was built in the XV century and has been declared a monument of national historic interest.
Also notable are the hermitages of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad (XV century), of Gothic architecture, and Jesús and de El Cristo. Both of these latter are of Barroque style (XVIII century). The Virgen de Zocueca, built between the XVII and the XVIII centuries and the parrochial church of San José Obrero, are also found close by. This latter celebrates the festival in honour of the Saint Jose on the 1st of May.
