The town of Almodovar in the southern part of the province of Córdoba is a beautiful white washed village with a spectacular castle that must be one of the best preserved in the whole of Andalusia.

The castle sits on top of an almost impenetrable buttress of rock that must have been almost impregnable in its day...well, almost.

Its Iberian origins testify to its anciente lineage and its strategic position was used by the romans and the arabs in their time. It was the arabs who contributed most to the building of the actual castle; this is the year 760, not long after conquest of the Iberian Peninsula. Since then it was subjected to various waves of invasion, conquest and capitulation, the most important being in 902 under the orders of the 'Count of Torralva".

The castle has indications of many cultures that have left their marks. Both the Muslim and Christian religions are welll represented and have resulted in the creation of a monument of unrivalled beauty as can be seen in the video taken from a microlight aircraft by Rafa Tena.
