Alameda's history is we.l described by the many prehistoric remains that have been discovered within the municipal terminus. These indicate that human presence began here during the Neolithic. Continuity was supplied by other, newer remains that date from iberian and roman times.
The roman settlement coincides almost exactly with the modern day ruban nucleus. Historians consider that it must have been of strategic importance in that three of the most important roman vias of communication pass through the municipal terminus. This importance is further demonstrated by the existence of thermal baths, perhaps the most important archaeological discovery of the region.
After this period, the history of Alameda is rather obscure. Only the discover of some minor artefacts dating from teh VI century confirm that the town was also a visigoth settlement.
During the muslim epoque, the land around Alameda was no-man's land as it was located on the frontier zone between Estepa and Antequera (conquered in 1410). However, from the XVI century Alameda formed part of the lands of the Maquis of Estepa. It wasn't until the end of the XVII century that the town began to recover some of the importance it had enjoyed during roman times.
Of great historical romantic importance is the town's relationship with the infamous bandit José Mª El Tempranillo. Near to the town, along the road the unites it with Mollina, is the cortijo Buenavista, called this simply because of the great views that can be enjoyed here. It was here that the bandit was betrayed and mortally wounded by some thieves that had taken up residence. The famous bandit was shot in the back and killed here. He died the next day and was buried on the patio of the church in Almadena (the old cemetary).
